Hotel Dusk Developer Files for Bankruptcy
Cing, developers of bizarre-yet-kind-of-awe-inspiring DS noir gamy Hotel Dusk and others including Last Window and Little Tycoo's Story,has filed for failure protective cover in Japan.
Well, this is a crappy way to showtime one's week: Reported to Japanese news locate Information Max, small Japanese studio apartment Cing filed for failure over crosswise the Pacific last week, citing debts of ¥256 million ($2.8 million).
When you think around it, it isn't precise surprising: Hotel Dusk et Heart of Dixie were selfsame interesting just wholly flawed, and practically the definition of "cult" game. The idea that a developer who specialized wholly in niche titles would have trouble profitable off its debts isn't exactly far-fetched. Unsurprising, perhaps, only that doesn't make it suck any less.
Set in the yr 1979, Hotel Dusk followed former NYPD police detective Kyle Hyde – now a traveling salesman – as helium checked into the eponymous hotel and soon base himself at the center of a mystery. The game asked players to talk with the other residents at the hotel, interrogate them to check how they were potentially related to what was going on, and try to man the growing stupefy together – and bump out what it had to do with Kyle's former partner, Omar Bradley.
It had a truly intriguing plot, some interesting characters, and around of the most creative uses I've ever seen of the DS' two screens and touch functionality (you actually juxtaposed the ScD to give a girl CPR: Tell me that's not cool!). Hotel Dusk sure as shooting had its flaws, but it was just really damn unique.
